One Piece Kitchen Knife - Bladesmithing Course
COMING SOON! ... Subscribe to be the first to book!
This modern take on a kitchen knife utilises the traditional skills of blacksmithing to forge a knife from a single billet of steel, manipulating the steel to form a integral handle.
This day teaches you the key basic principles of knife forging and due to this unique style create a knife suitable for the kitchen in one day! This day is limited to only 3 participants due to its in-depth, hands on nature to ensure we can work with you to create something beautiful and totally unique.
Parking is easily available onsite with hot drinks and snacks provided throughout the day but please bring your own lunch, plenty of snacks and refillable water bottle. This course allows for lots of direct teaching time with a small and focused number of people on each course (3) allowing you to get fantastic personal tuition from our team.
The Days Overview:
Please arrive for a 9:30am start where you will meet the team and get to know the workshop. After you have a hot drink, we begin learning some basic skills and make a key ring as a warm up project so you can practice and get used to swinging a hammer in this new environment. We then start on your knife billet shaping both the blade and handle by hand with hammer and anvil. Then we refine the profile with hand files taking time to get them comfortable in the hand. We will then add some final hand forged details before the all important quench and heat treatment your blade has a hardened edge. We will then put a edge onto your blades so that they are ready for the kitchen before a whetstone session to finish the sharpening process. Throughout the day you will be guided by an expert member of the team. The day will come to a close as late as 7pm. This is an intensive exciting and enthralling day of fire, sparks and hammers! We only take 3 participants at a time on this course so we can best create your new blade.
